Question: Where is the best place to stay in belize for diving?

Answer #1:
I lived in Belize for 5 years. The island of San Pedro (Ambergris Quay, but no one calls it that) has wonderful snorkeling at a reserve on the reefs. You can get out and walk around in knee deep water there. I haven't scuba dived there, but I hear it is fine. There are a lot of places to stay on the island. Just put 'Belize hotels" in your search engine. I have stayed at Ramon's, but it is pricey. I'd call around because the prices vary and the ones posted online are way too high. Belize is a third-world country and like other places, you need to be aware of your surroundings and not wander around alone. Not everyone likes tourists, they scoff at them but they are happy to take your money.Answer #2:
roatan island the best by far. got my padi licence there.Answer #3:
It is probably best to stay out on one of the islands (called Cayes) and since it is a family trip I'd recommend something in or near San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. It is a little more touristy, but probably more choices for accomodations and activities for a family. We stayed at the Xanadu Resort a few years ago and it was fantastic, but there were many others that I'm sure would work great for a family.By the way just to clarify another answer you got - Roatan island is NOT Belize - it is an island that is in Honduras.
There are also many scuba and snorkeling companies that will take you out to the reef, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, shark ray alley, out to the blue hole or numerous other fantastic scuba spots.
I've included links with more information.
